Valentine’s day can be a real drag for those who don’t have significant others. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t experience love on this special holiday. Self-love is extremely important for everyone, whether or not you find yourself in a relationship. With these 7 ideas to self-care, you’ll not only be feeling the love for yourself, but your body and mindset will thank you for taking the time to relax and reward yourself.
1. Pamper Yourself
Everyone has been overly stressed with the pandemic, so why not take a little extra time to pamper yourself? This could mean different things to everyone, whether that be a hot bubble bath with some relaxing music, some expensive chocolates, or buying yourself a new skincare product that you’ve been dying to try. A small gift to yourself is well deserved.
2. Watch a Movie
The notebook isn’t for everyone, especially if crying is not the vibe you're feeling this year.
Some other valentines day/sappy rom coms I recommend are:
The Proposal- A funny classic take on a fake marriage proposal, including Ryan Reynolds (and who doesn’t love a good shirtless scene).
Valentines Day- A series of people are connected in multiple ways and shows how different people experience Valentines day (lots of fun actors in this one).
10 Things I Hate About You- Heath Ledger, do I need to say more? Super quirky old school movie.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days- One of my personal favorites, a super funny and creative take on a girl giving the man a run for his money.
Brooklyn- A little more unheard of, but a great story about an Irish immigrant who comes to America, falls in love with a man, and ends up returning to Ireland to see her mother and ultimately is left to choose to return to her American love or stay in the comfort of home with an Irish man.
3. Indulge Your Senses
Make your night as relaxing as possible by allowing yourself to satisfy your five senses.
For smell, light some relaxing candles or try a new perfume for the day.
For touch, get comfy on the couch with a soft blanket and fuzzy socks.
For sight, lightly clean the area you plan to hang out in and organize it so you have plenty of options for entertainment and munchies to keep you busy.
For taste, maybe cook a new meal or order your favorite takeout (And DON'T forget the popcorn! HealthyMe Living has a great snack subscription box with tons of variety that fits all of your sweet and salty craving needs with less guilt to be had about finishing the bag!).
Lastly for hearing, write down some positive or happy quotes, manifestations, or even things you love about yourself and put them in sticky notes throughout your living space to remind yourself you’re an amazing person.
4. Create a New Goal for Yourself
If you are single on this affectionate holiday, why not take the time to sit down and reflect on the good things about yourself? Maybe you’d like to start looking into a more serious relationship. Or maybe you want to focus on other career or life goals that you’ve been putting off to the side. Whatever the decision is, it can be great to mentally reflect and tell yourself what the next step to take is. Think about your life and how you want to make the most of it.
5. Make it a Girls Night
Girls always just want to have fun, right? If you’re not feeling like spending the holidays alone this year, invite your friends over for a small “slumber party”. Bring out the blankets and pillows like old times and talk about anything your heart desires. You could even give each other gifts or valentines, like our Valentine Themed Snack Box. This can be a good distraction to those who may be suffering some form of heartbreak over the holiday, or it can be a way to rekindle old friendships.
6. Get Crafty!
Bring out the inner child in you by getting crafty! Making Valentines for friends, family, love interests, or coworkers is a great way to start/end the day with some stress free fun. Not into tacky cards? Create a pinterest style vision board to bring yourself self-love, motivation, or inspiration!
7. Lights Out
Unplug and take a break from social media, TV, or any electronics. This is totally optional, however taking a break from the phones can be a really eye-opening and beneficial experience. Instead try meditation or yoga, read a new book, catch up on some z’s, or get outside (weather permitting). This unwind session will have you feeling refreshed and ready to take on anything for the rest of the month.
All in all, self-love is essential to everyone’s life. This Valentines day doesn’t have to be a dreary one, so why not make the most of your time by doing something for yourself? We want YOU feeling your best, even after binging all of our healthy snacks!
