5 common mistakes made when trying to lose weight

  • 2 min read
Over the past few years, I’ve seen people try every diet and exercise program under the sun. If they succeeded, it often was short term or they’d feel like they failed and go the other extreme. Nothing seems to work as well as changing the way you look at food. It is then that you realize the mistakes you made while trying to lose weight.
In this article, I’m going to share 5 common mistakes people make when trying to lose weight. I hope by sharing my experiences I might be able to help people avoid the mistakes I’ve seen. So, here are the five mistakes I’ve seen people make when trying to lose weight.
Trying to lose weight
The goal should be to eat healthier, live healthier and often a side effect of that is weight loss. Focusing just on weight causes you to lose sight of what’s important and can cause short term weight loss that comes right back.
Counting calories
Most people trying to lose weight believe simply eating fewer calories will be the path to weight loss. Oftentimes, quality is more important than quantity. The low-cal, highly processed diet snack that you’re eating with the best intentions, may actually just be empty calories that will leave you feeling unsatisfied and hungrier.
3. Too restrictive
Some people severely limit their caloric intake or skip meals to try and get rapid weight loss. That is rarely effective and isn’t a healthy way to go about it. It’s the gradual changes and often the ADDITIONAL calories that can help you reach your health goals.
4. Quick results
The best, longest-lasting health habits take time to build. Quick results are usually not quality results and can cause a rollercoaster of dieting and not feeling your best. It’s not about getting there quickly, it’s about moving in the right direction consistently.
5. Setting expectations too high
Setting long-term goals is great, but these goals always seem too far off. You need to set smaller, more reachable goals that you can regularly meet to keep your motivation high. All it takes is a few steps in the right direction each day to get you where you want to be.
So there we go, those are the mistakes I see people making and a different perspective that will pay off.
